About
Raised on episodes of Sea Hunt and Jacques Cousteau documentaries, Richard Meredith, a native of Flint, Michigan, always longed for a life at sea. After moving to California while serving in the US Navy, he remained to finish college.
His career as a marine scientist and wildlife biologist has provided rich fodder for his writing. His novel, Maskirovka--The Russian Science of Deception, which received a Starred Review and made Kirkus Review’s 100 Best Indie Books of 2022, drew heavily on his work as an analyst in the petroleum industry. His years on commercial fishing boats in the Pacific formed the backdrop of his thriller, The Crow’s Nest, which won the Silver Falchion Award for the Best Action-Adventure novel at the 2021 Killer Nashville Mystery and Thriller Writers Conference. His thriller, Sky Dance, was based on his ecological restoration work in the oil fields of Ecuador.
Rick has moderated and been a panelist at numerous mystery writers conferences including Killer Nashville, Left Coast Crime, and Bouchercon. He is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and is the President of Capitol Crimes, the Sacramento area chapter of Sisters-in-Crime.
When not writing, he enjoys travel, bird and wildlife watching, scuba diving, guitars, rock concerts, and most sports. He is married with two sons and four grandchildren. Useless trivia: Mr. Meredith played basketball in college for one season where he set the scoring record of a single point. He could have scored more, but he missed the second free throw. He claims he was a defensive specialist. He was the rhythm guitarist of The Sheffields, a mid-1960s garage rock band, until the band insisted he learn a fourth chord.
